Cupping in Wilmington.

Suction that lifts tight tissue instead of pressing on it, placed by your therapist for the area your evaluation flagged.

What It Is

Lift, don’t press.

Nearly every other soft tissue technique pushes down. Cupping does the opposite. A cup creates gentle suction that lifts the skin and the layer of tissue right underneath it.

That lift decompresses tissue that’s been stuck to itself and gives the layers room to slide again. Your Doctor of Physical Therapy places the cups based on what your evaluation found, and can have you move while they’re on so the new glide happens under real motion.

The round marks afterward are normal and painless. They come from suction, not from impact, and they fade on their own. Nothing here gets sprung on you.

What It Helps

Where cupping shines.

When a whole area feels dense and stuck rather than one point being sore, lifting it beats pushing on it.

Questions, Answered

Cupping, no mystery.

No. A bruise comes from impact. These come from suction drawing blood toward the surface, and they’re painless to the touch. They fade on their own. If you have an event coming up and you’d rather not have them, tell us and we’ll use something else.

Most people describe a firm pulling or a tight tugging, not pain. The suction is adjustable, so if it’s too much we dial it back on the spot. It’s always optional, and your therapist will walk you through exactly what to expect before a single cup goes on.

Honestly, no, and anyone selling it that way is selling you a standing appointment. Cupping opens up motion. What keeps that motion is the loading we do right after, inside a plan that runs Pain, Prime, Perform, Prevent and then ends.
